Q4 from Tana (Updated Today, Tue, 5 Dec)

Reflections on what we’ve done this far in 2023, and an update on our Q4 priorities

Hey Tanarians!

We’ve been hard at work throughout the year, dividing our attention between creating new features from the community’s problem requests and streamlining all things backend, Tana graph, search, and functionality not visible directly in Tana’s interface.

Matt and Ingrid in deep conversation on ideas from the community

The unwavering support, feedback, and ideas from you all have been instrumental in shaping Tana into the platform it is today. As we always have said: the Tana community is our most important feature, and Tana will continue to be community built.

Here are a selection of things we shipped and created this year, based on your feedback:

  • 🖼️ Dockable, scrollable panels.
  • 📰 Tana Templates
  • 🐛 New in-app bug-process
  • 🌩️ Ideas.tana.inc
  • ❓ Help Center search examples
  • 📆 Calendar views
  • 🎛️ Tana Commands
  • 🔩 Introducing Tana Input API
  • 🧠 Tana AI for builders
  • ✨ Autofill
  • 📱 Tana Capture for iOS
  • 📱 Tana Capture for Android
  • 🔥 New unified sidebar
  • 🚀 New look & feel!
  • ⛩️ Centered content
  • 🍞 New Panels
  • # The Supertag Page
  • 🧹 Home cleanup
  • @ Readwise integration
  • 🧭 Tana Navigators
  • 💫Tana Ambassadors
  • 📄 Tana Publish: Page
  • 💻 Tana for Desktop
  • 🍭 Side menu
  • 🍫 Toolbar
  • 🌇 New and better images

The use cases we’re seeing from these features are amazing.

Users of our AI for builders and Autofill are telling us that it finally feels like the computer is working for them, not the other way around.
We’ve seen our users go from taking about stale templates, to Tana AI apps, building OKR and GTD AI’s or simple personas apps.
People are talking to their phones and writing company memos or chapters of their books without touching a keyboard.
With Tana Publish: Page, our goal was to make it easy to share your notes in a beautiful way. And thats what we’re seeing. People are sharing everything from work music and book recommendations, to meeting notes and thoughts.

The last quarter of 2023

As we enter the last quarter of the year, we are preparing for the next step of our journey. More features instrumental to reinventing how humans, teams, and computers work together are coming, and our core will be strengthened and ready for scale.

We know many want a clear and public roadmap.
But we never operate with a set roadmap simply because we don’t know how the solutions to our users’ frictions look before we build and test them.
We don’t want to look sideways at what our colleagues in the space do. That’s not the way to create innovation and progress for human productivity. That’s not how we end up providing you with mind like water.
What we do is listen to our users. Try to understand your challenges and frictions, look forward, in trying to reinvent how humans, teams, and computers work together.
For Q4 and our roadmap we’ll say this: We are working on improving the ability to work on Tana anywhere you go, with a more robust handling of flaky networks and ability to continue working in short stints of no wifi. A big priority for us is also to expand Tana on mobile, and the first step we’re aiming for is to let you retrieve your information. We know this is something many are waiting for, and we’re working hard to get the technical foundation needed in place.
In addition to this, we’re working on improving the core experience of Tana, by making it more seamless and delightful to work and more intuitive for new users. Tana has been at the forefront of integrating AI this year, and now we are exploring how to go even further in making AI help our users directly in the context where they’re working.
